Green Film Series Celebrates Seedy Saturday with 'Open Sesame: The Story of Seeds'

Spring is here and many coasters are looking over their seed catalogs and planning their gardens. Those seeds are one of the most important resources on earth. They are the basis for our food, fuel and fabric. Yet they at risk. Approximately 90 percent of the fruit and vegetable varieties that existed 100 years ago no longer exist today according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN. But there are people who are working to save this precious resource.

In support of the One Straw Society and Seedy Saturday, the Green Film Series will screen the film Open Sesame: The Story of Seeds on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 pm at the Roberts Creek Hall.

Spring Green Film Series Opens with 'Return of the River'

What are the possibilities when a community comes together to make change for the better? In the film Return of the River, First Nations, environmentalists, government, industry and community members work together to set a river free and bring hope for the future. Return of the River opens the spring season of the Green Film Series on Monday, February 2 at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse with a second showing on Thursday, February 5 in Sechelt at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, both showings at 7:30 pm. The Wood Duck Bus is scheduled to bring people from Madeira Park to the Sechelt screening.

Just Eat It Confronts Food Waste in North America

Just Eat It, A food waste story, will be the closing film in the Fall Green Film Series. This new film by Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin will be shown on Monday, December 1 at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse and Thursday, December 4 in Sechelt at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre. The Wood Duck Bus is scheduled to bring Pender Harbour residents to the screening in Sechelt. Rustemeyer will attend the Gibson's screening.

The Green Film Series continues it's fall season on Monday, October 27 with the film Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse. The Wood Duck Bus is scheduled to bring Pender Harbour residents to the screening in Sechelt.
